Alexander-Arnold out with hamstring injury for several weeks

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold will be out for several weeks with a hamstring problem, manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.

The 23-year-old English defender suffered the injury during Wednesday’s Premier League game win at Arsenal.

It means he will also miss England’s friendlies against Switzerland and the Ivory Coast next week.

“Trent is out with a hamstring so he can’t be a part of England too,” Klopp said.

“Not good news, we’ll see how long it takes.”

Joe Gomez and veteran James Milner are the likely candidates to replace Alexander-Arnold, but Klopp admits neither possesses the same skills as the England international.

“Of course replacing Trent is difficult but possible,” added Klopp, whose team travel to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.

“I don’t know any player who plays like Trent, so it’s hard to find a one-on-one replacement.

“We have Milly [Milner]Joe, theoretically we can also change the system, this kind of thing. So we have a couple of options.

“When you look at the past, when Milly has had to step up, she’s done incredibly well. And if not, maybe we’ll have a young solution.”

Klopp’s side host Watford in their first Premier League game after the international break on April 2, before a pivotal trip to title rivals Manchester City the following week, on both sides of the match. first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals.

The Merseysiders are currently second in the Premier League, one point behind City.
