A second person has been arrested for allegedly they cheated on an 84-year-old who has Alzheimer’s disease outside his home and his finances, reports CBS Miami.
Police say Andy Mora is one of two people who persuaded the elderly victim to sign for the house and the money, claiming it was family.
Mora was arrested a day after police arrested 57-year-old Maribel Torres.
Authorities say she was working at a funeral home when she met the victim while he was arranging for his wife the day after she died in August 2019.
It was not clear what Mora’s relationship was with Torres.
Authorities say Torres not only filed documents to get the home, but also took out business loans under a company he set up, using the victim’s home and earning more than $ 400,000.
Miami-Dade prosecutor Katherine Fernandez Randle told CBS Miami that it all came to light when “a good nephew came back to check on his uncle.”
The nephew found out that Torres and her son had moved into the victim’s house, which he reported to authorities.
The house was “technically sold and borrowed for,” Rundle told CBS Miami.
It will be almost impossible to return home, the station notes.
Mora and Torres face several felony charges, including exploiting an elderly man.
Rundle says she is concerned there may be other victims.
