Country superstar Dolly Parton and bestselling producer James Patterson have teamed up for a new thriller. Set in Nashville, “Run, Rose, Run” tells the story of a country singer who discovers that the music industry can be just as heartbreaking as the secret it carries. Parton would like to star in the film, she told Lee Cowan in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, which airs March 6 on CBS and Paramount +.
Little, Brown
In the book, which will be released on March 7, the young up-and-coming singer is comforted by a retired country icon. “I hope to play that character when we make a movie book, something we hope to do at some point,” Parton told Cowan.
Cowan sits down with Parton and Patterson to talk about their collaboration and the new album of original songs released in conjunction with the book.
Patterson unveiled the idea behind “Run, Rose, Run” at Parton in 2019. The book is both a celebration and a warning story for the music industry.
“It shows a lot of the dark side of it,” Parton said. “People who participated in it, like me, know it, because you experienced it.”
“Did you experience many of them? Are some of them in the book?” Cowan asked Parton.
“Oh, yes,” Parton replied. “You see it all. All the managers – people who will tear you apart, try to steal your songs, cheat on you, do anything. I’ve seen it all.”
