Samuel L. Jackson is one of the most sought after stars in Hollywood, appearing in the “Star Wars” and Marvel franchises, commercials and much more. However, his latest project, the limited series “The Last Days of Ptolemy Gray”, took 12 years to complete. Jackson talks about the new series, his career and more in an interview with Kelefa Sanneh on “CBS Sunday Morning”, which will air on March 6 on CBS and will continue through Paramount +.
In “The Last Days of Ptolemy Gray”, Jackson plays a 91-year-old man with dementia, who recovers for a while. The limited edition Apple TV series is a co-production of Jackson and his wife, actress LaTania Richardson, and is based on a book and screenplay by Walter Mosley.
The story is personal about Jackson, whose mother died in 2012 after dementia. She says she did not know who she was in the last decade of her life.
“What would I give her, you know, you only have an hour with me to say, you know,
“I’m really proud of what you did,” Jackson said. “Or for me, you know, to tell her that, ‘Everything you did, you know, that you sacrificed and gave and pushed me and took. he took me and took me to this place, you know? “Just, you know, to thank her and love her.”
In an extensive interview, Jackson talks about his early career. his work on the Marvel and Star Wars franchises. and his interpretation of Quentin Tarantino’s classic, Pulp Fiction. He talks about his challenges to make plays in Hollywood and even actors with a history of success.
“People say they want to be in business with you, but they want to be in business with you just as they want to be in business with you,” Jackson said. “Well, it’s still a race like this … I wish you knew the All-Black network had as much money as you know Netflix was throwing. Into the hands of these other people who have it.”
