Divers were searching Thursday for what the sheriff’s office described as “contaminated water” after discovering human body parts in a nature reserve near West Palm Beach, Florida.
The office of Martin County Sheriff said in a statement that the Hungarian wildlife sanctuary was closed after human remains were discovered near the canal bank on Wednesday night.
“A large getter was in possession of what was found last night,” said the sheriff’s office.
The Martin County Fire and Rescue Diving team is currently investigating the contaminated water in the Hungryland Preserve for any extra human remains following the discovery of body parts near the canal bank last night. An MCSO sniper closely monitors divers as they search. A large gator was in possession of what was found last night. The park will remain closed until investigators clear the spot.

Officials did not disclose details, but the Miami Herald said a state biologist had identified what appeared to be a detached human hand in an alligator’s mouth. The newspaper reported that on Thursday, another part of the body was discovered, possibly part of a leg.
“We can not rule out the possibility that someone fell into the water and died of natural causes out here, but it does not seem so,” said Sheriff William Snyder, according to WPTV.
Police officers, forensic detectives and wildlife officials were at the scene. The sheriff’s office also said a sniper “had a watchful eye” to protect divers from alligators.
The park, which covers more than 16,600 acres in Martin and Palm Beach counties, is used for hunting, fishing and wildlife watching.
IT’S HAPPENING NOW Detectives, police detectives and FWC officers are searching a large area of Hungary’s wildlife sanctuary after human remains were found near the shore of a canal contaminated with a pocket about three miles into the park. The discovery of the body parts comes after the revelation that those responsible for Florida wildlife had killed a large alligator who swam a few inches from a frightened rower in a popular state park during a meeting in September recorded on video that went viral.
