Police name three teenagers killed in Dumfries crash

Police have named three teenagers who died in a two-car accident on the A711 near Dumfries.

Emergency services were called to the crash involving a Honda Civic and a Honda CRV at 00:20 on Wednesday.

Finlay Johns, Ian Cannon and Tyler Johnston, all 16, died at the scene. A fourth man in the Honda Civic, 17, remains in critical condition.

Three men, ages 32, 51 and 54, who were traveling in the Honda CRV, were taken to hospital.

Medical staff described his condition as serious but stable.

The road was closed for several hours to allow investigation work into the collision.

Ch Insp Lorraine Napier, from Police Scotland’s Road Policing unit, said: “Our investigations continue into the circumstances that led to this fatal accident and we recognize how the local community feels following this horrific incident.”

“We have deployed specialist family liaison officers to support the families and friends of those who have been killed or injured. It is understandable that this is an extremely traumatic incident.”

She asked that anyone with information that could help the investigation get in touch.
