Manchester Airport sorry as huge queues lead to missed flights

Manchester airport has apologized after huge security queues caused passengers to miss flights.

Hundreds of travelers were left waiting for hours on Wednesday, with many venting your frustrations online.

The airport said the unexpectedly high number of passengers put “considerable strain” on staff, while 60% of bags had been refused security.

Passenger Paul Keegan said everyone was “tired and upset” after waiting five hours to board a flight.

Keegan, who was flying to Dublin with his son, described the airport as “one of the most chaotic in the world”.

He told BBC North West Tonight that people were “screaming, upset and frustrated”.

“I felt so sorry for the staff because people were being abusive and loud. This place is never nice,” she added.

There were hundreds of people in the Terminal 1 parking lot.

Frustrated passengers had already checked their bags but were then forced to exit the airport to join the security queue.

It was hard to see where the end of the line was as it wound around the parking lot three times.

People had been there for over an hour before even joining the queue inside.

An airport spokesman said the “rapid recovery in international travel” meant it had been “more difficult to predict passenger volumes”.

“We would like to apologize to those affected by yesterday’s challenges and assure them that we are doing everything possible to rectify the situation,” he added.

The airport urged travelers to arrive at the earliest time recommended by their airline.
