Rashford denies making rude gesture to fans after Man Utd defeat to Atletico

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has denied making a rude gesture to fans with his hand.

The incident in question took place as the 24-year-old was leaving Old Trafford after United’s defeat against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday.

A video on social media surfaced to show him angrily responding to fans.

“A video is worth a thousand words, and in this case, it leads to inaccurate information being shared on social media.” Rashford said in a tweet.external link

England leaders Rashford came on as a 67th-minute substitute against Atletico but made little impact as United lost 1-0 and went 2-1 on aggregate in the round of 16.

Rashford added: “I was heckled from the moment I stepped on the ground, the abuse wasn’t just directed at my football. People expected a reaction from me.

“The phones were ready. Of course, I should have walked right past him and ignored him, that’s what we’re supposed to do, right?”

He added that he “used his index finger to signal the fan to ‘come over and say it to my face’ and did not gesture with his middle finger.”
