A British-American citizen temporarily released from prison in Iran two days ago has been returned to jail, his family says.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Morad Tahbaz, who also has Iranian citizenship, had been released on the same day that two other British dual nationals were released.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori have since returned to the UK and been reunited with their families.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Tahbaz, 66, was doing conservation work when he was arrested in January 2018.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Authorities charged him and seven other conservationists with collecting classified information about strategic areas in Iran under the guise of carrying out environmental and scientific projects.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

On Wednesday, UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss announced that Mr Tahbaz had been sent home to Tehran on leave. She said that Tahbaz, Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Ashoori had been freed as “the result of dogged and creative British diplomacy”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

However, on Friday, Mr Tahbaz’s family said they had received “devastating news” that he had been returned to prison.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“We, the family, are distressed at this time,” they said in a statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“We were confident and confident that the UK government had taken responsibility for securing their release… After the euphoria of Nazanin and Anoosheh’s return home, there is a worrying sense that the UK government has not pushed to the Iranian authorities to obtain the freedom of Morad in the same way.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Reacting to the development, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said the Iranians had told the UK government that Mr Tahbaz had been taken to Evin prison to have a tag placed on him. the ankle that should have been placed prior to release. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“We hope to see you back home in the next few hours,” the FCDO said. “Morad Tahbaz is trinational and we are working closely with the United States to secure Morad’s permanent release.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
