Intimate image abuse: His confession protected him

After receiving an anonymous tip on Facebook, Georgie discovered that intimate photos of her were being shared online.

She remembered who had taken the photos, and later a former partner confessed to sharing the images. But Georgie later discovered that the wording of the current legislation intended to address the abuse meant that her confession could have been what protected him.

Georgie has been campaigning with groups like End Violence Against Women Coalition and #NotYourPorn to change legislation on the abuse of intimate images.

He spoke to the BBC ahead of the government’s long-awaited online safety law, due to be published this week, which the government says will tackle a wide list of online harms, including the abuse of intimate images.
